History of the Lake

Chances are you, or someone you know, has some great memories of Lake Hopatcong. What was not to like? Lake Hopatcong borders on four towns and sits between two counties in the Highlands of New Jersey. For over a century, the fresh water and cool air of Lake Hopatcong made it THE summer destination for hot city dwellers travelling by rail. Awaiting ferry boats whisked them to camp sites, cabins or one of many lavish hotels. There was just about every kind of summer entertainment back then.
Today the lake is alive and well. Didn’t you know? There is motor-boating of just about every kind from “tin-cans” to antique crafts. And there is also terrific sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, fishing, jet-skiing, and swimming. Not a full time boater? Don’t worry there are rentals, boating clubs, ski lessons and boat tours. Lakeside there is a variety of restaurants, bars and delis to fill your belly and quench that thirst. Over a hundred years later—we (and many other business and clubs) are waiting for you to grab your chance to create your own memories. LIVE THE LAKE – New Jersey!
